About Generational Canvas

Our History

Hi, My name is Alisa Zusin, and I am the founder of Generational Canvas. he goal is to create a community where people can come together through the form of art. The idea stemmed from the passing of my great grandmother who had no one by her side when she had left. I want to make sure that her one dream gets fulfilled to others, which is to be felt seen and heard. She was never really able to talk to people, and no one had ever been able to visit her in Uzbekistan. I want people to be able to feel seen, heard, and respected.

Our Mission

Our mission is to provide a platform for highschoolers to create portfolio style work as well as get service hours for a wonderful cause. While teenagers get the benefits of being able to get community service hours, the elderly are able to get a beautiful portrait of themselves that will be displayed in a gallery that they can come and view with their families.

Our Events

We host a variety of events throughout the year, including art exhibitions, workshops, and performances. Our events are open to everyone and are a great way to get involved in the community.

About our founder:

Who is Alisa Zusin

I am a 17 year old High School student at Fiorello H. Laguardia's school of Music, and Arts. Im from Sheepshead Bay, Brooklyn, and recently moved to Long Island. I am Uzbek and Russian, and speak Russian, English, and am currently learning German. I have been involved in the art scene from a young age- having work featured in galleries since I was 10 years old.

Why start Generational Canvas?

I started Generational Canvas after the passing of my great-grandmother Balya. She loved the arts, and even though she was oceans away, we managed to grow very close. I made Generational Canvas in her memory, and to build bridges between NYC's youth and the elders that helped build the community we live in now.
